When it comes to creating video content consistently to help you grow your business, there are often three key areas that are roadblocks that get in your way of creating professional and consistent video content. 

I'm going to share with you the three main obstacles I see most businesses facing when it comes to creating video for their online business—and how you can overcome them.

Obstacle #1: Your Environment or Space

I know what you're thinking: "I'm not a digital marketer, I'm a [person who does something else]."

But guess what? You can still be a digital marketer.

It's true that many people have to overcome some major obstacles when it comes to creating video content—from environment to equipment and more—but there are ways around these barriers, and I want to tell you about them.

The first barrier is your environment. Now, for some of you, this might mean that your office space isn't very creative or built for video creation. If that's the case, then I recommend dedicating a space in your home or office that is always ready to go. That way, when it comes time to create video content—recording content like a podcast or video recording studio—you don't have any excuses!

So set up an office in the front of your house if working from home is an option for you; get yourself a camera and soft box light that are hooked up and ready-to-go within seconds; grab yourself a microphone that doesn't need any setup time; and then start filming!

Obstacle #2: Your Technology

Oftentimes, we feel held back from creating video content because we don't have the right technology or equipment to do it.

So guess what?

The best equipment is the camera that you have on you: your phone!

Start with your phone — You don't need a professional video production agency or fancy equipment to start recording and sharing your content.

And there are many very successful content creators out there on TikTok, Instagram and YouTube who are using their phones to create their content.

You can do the same—whether it's vertical or horizontal—use your phone!

And don't feel bogged down by having all the right equipment—you can start there and maybe eventually upgrade to more professional equipment as needed if it makes sense for your brand image and audience expectations.

So take a deep breath and start recording!

Along these lines, one of the most common excuses for not using video marketing is the belief that it's too expensive — especially considering all the technology and equipment needed.

This is something we all have to deal with but it's also something that we can overcome by first acknowledging it exists and then breaking down those barriers once we notice them because they're usually disguised as excuses or justifications why we should not do something instead of recognizing them as real problems that require real solutions.

You don't have to look like a fashion model for your audience to love what you have to say!

And honestly, in today's world where everyone has access to high-quality cameras on their phones, it's really hard for someone who isn't really good at being in front of one anyway—and that's okay.

Video marketing, and being confident on camera, is a skill that can be learned and improved upon. And once you get started, it becomes easier and more enjoyable.

The first step is to stop making excuses for why you can't do it—and start making them for why you will!

Here are some ways to overcome that barrier:

  1. Take a moment before filming to brainstorm ideas for your video.
  2. Write yourself a script so that when you start filming, you have something prepared and ready to go.
  3. Use visual prompts like images or drawings on paper or whiteboards as a guide during your filming session (and then add them into your final edit).
  4. Have someone else interview you—that way they can ask questions and come up with ideas for how the video should go instead of leaving all the responsibility up on your shoulders alone.
